Comfort Food!

A friend of mine published this recipe in her blog and it looked so delicious that I just had to try it. Turned out it was both easy to make and delicious to eat. First, you take a cheap cut of meat (I used an arm roast) and you sear it on both sides in a big pot.
Then, chop up a head of cabbage and put it in the pot.
Then toss in a big can of tomato juice and a can of crushed tomatoes.
Put in some onion and garlic and a package of frozen veggies. Put in the oven at 325 for about 5 hours and.....
You get this! A little garlic bread goes nice with it too! Delicious!

Entry for the County Fair

I've never entered anything in a County fair in my life. Becci called me this morning and asked me to print out a picture that I took last week. It was a foggy morning and I just thought it looked pretty so I took a pic off the front porch. I printed it on my printer at work today and it actually came out pretty good. It has to be matted so Bec is going to do that for me. Wonder how it will do? Here's the pic.

My plants!

Becci has a bazillion plants! I have two. She is a Master Gardner and is very good with plants. Me....not so good. These are Lantana's. We used to have one of these in our backyard in Phoenix and I just really liked it so Bec got me a couple for here.

I think the flowers are very interesting and I like the vibrant colors. I also like it that the just keep on blooming!

Now I just need to decide where I want to plant these! Somewhere close to the front porch so I can watch them I think.

Fast food!

Well....looks like I've about polished off THIS feeder. Maybe I'll stroll over to that other one and see how the menu looks over there!

Hmmmmm....looks pretty good from here! They sure don't make this too easy for me tho!

That's a little better. Just climb up here and find a good spot to get some lunch!

Trip to the Big City!

This last weekend Becci and I went to Springfield, Mo. to get some new eyeglasses. Since we don't get out much we decided to make a nice weekend of it. I always save my change and throw it in a jar, and Bec takes it to the bank. Then, when we have enough, we call it our *date* money. Anyway,we got a nice suite in a motel that had a full kitchen.

And a living room with a fireplace.

We lounged by the pool and spent some time in the jacuzzi

And just relaxed in the shade under a bit arbor

And went to dinner at Red Lobster. Bec had a big lobster tail and I had the seafood feast! Yum!

It was a very nice relaxing weekend!

Living in Nature!

Here's a young buck and a doe that were out back this morning. I see deer most every day and it's fun to watch them. We also see lots of wild turkeys and many other critters!

The chickens

When we bought our place about 10 years ago the place was a mess! Most of the doors and windows were missing from the old farm house and the grass was about waist deep! Ticks were everywhere! Coming from the *big city* we didn't know much about these little critters. I asked around and everyone told me to get some chickens cuz they would eat up all the ticks. Well....we've always had chickens since then. At one point we had over 100 of them but now we just have maybe 15 or so. We get plenty of eggs to eat and have not ticks around the house. Plus chickens are very simple to keep. I enjoy watching them foraging around the yard all the time. Guess we'll probably have a few chickens around!
